JBOD and its uses
JBODs (Just a bunch of Disks) or DAS (Direct Attached Storage) refers to a data storage appliance that is attached directly to a server or workstation in order to expand storage capacity. You can mix and match the drives within the JBOD chassis and once connected to the server or workstation it will recognise them as one volume, rather than many smaller volumes. If more space is needed, no special setup is required. Instead, you can simply attach another drive and continue working. Applications that require a large amount of disk space and high bandwidth benefit from JBOD configurations.
